The Home Office Life in the UK portfolio is a set of products that supports UK citizenship candidates. The official handbook A Guide to New Residents, consists of information that needs to be learned to pass the Life in the UK citizenship test. TSO delivers an end-to-end publishing solution under a concession contract, including publishing of books, apps, and e-learning to support candidates.

Challenge

The Home Office wanted to ensure that all users had access to the Life in the UK study material, in their preferred format. We wanted to help the Home Office identify new products that would support people studying for their citizenship test.

Solution

Creating official digital tools - TSO developed and manages the official Life in the UK test app, enabling candidates to prepare for the British Citizenship test through hundreds of official practice questions and mock tests, and keep track of their progress. Building on the app’s success, TSO created an official, one-stop e-learning solution using authorised content, accessible across all internet-connected devices. The platform supports study, practice and mock testing to improve knowledge retention and candidate confidence.

Publishing across digital and print - The official Life in the UK portfolio includes:

  • printed and digital publications
  • digital learning through mobile apps and e-learning.

TSO enables users to access content in the format that best suits their needs, including books, apps and browser-based learning. Key content from the official guide was integrated as optional in-app purchases, enabling candidates to access authoritative material seamlessly while ensuring continued alignment with Home Office requirements and the live test environment.

Connecting with customers - TSO manages the official Life in the UK shop, a trusted route for candidates to access authorised resources. We connect with customers through essential touchpoints, including test booking systems, online retailers and social media, ensuring test takers have easy access to the official guidance. Targeted marketing communications, supported by guidance and video content, improve confidence, increase pass rates, and drive uptake of the Life in the UK portfolio.
