Opening up public data

Open data image

The Coalition Government has set out specific commitments to open up government data to achieve greater transparency.

The Public Sector Transparency Board is responsible for setting open data standards and driving through the opening up of the most needed data sets.

TSO has been working with public sector clients to open up published data and make it reusable in three steps:

  • Create: providing processes and tools to enable data to be created in a structured or semi-structured way
  • Enrich: enhancing data using text engineering techniques and converting structured data to formats to publish on the web
  • Engage: providing web environments that allow both humans and machines to access and use the data

Why TSO?

  • We have been providing publishing and information management solutions to government for more than 200 years
  • Publishing data in machine readable form is a natural extension of our multi-format publishing solutions
  • We have been working with TNA to open up data in the Gazettes and Legislation
  • We offer a range of professional services to create, enrich and engage with open data including a highly scalable RDF triplestore platform
  • We host data.gov.uk and are providing services to TNA, COI and the Cabinet Office to move the initiative forward
  • We have linked data experts in-house and access to a growing number of partners with linked data skills.
