Celebrating successful teamwork

You may have seen the news in November that TSO has won a prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for work done on the Highway Code for everyone for life campaign, in partnership with DSA. The campaign took full advantage of digital technology to increase the reach of The Highway Code.

Together, we’ve adapted The Highway Code from a book – perceived to be just for learner drivers – into a multi-platform road safety service, accessed daily by both inexperienced and experienced road users, including motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.

The campaign started in December 2011 with the launch of The Highway Code on Twitter and Facebook, providing daily reminders of the rules of the road. The Official Highway Code is now delivered in 10 formats, including eBooks and an iPhone app, both developed by TSO.

On 11 December 2012, colleagues from both TSO and DSA were lucky enough to attend the annual awards ceremony at The Savoy in London to celebrate the win and learn about other innovations in the road safety industry. The awards ceremony was not only a great opportunity to share the success of our campaign, but also gave those involved time to reflect on all the other achievements that our publishing partnership has achieved in the last year.

Working together, TSO and DSA have really moved the official portfolio of products forward in 2012. Our new theory test books, for example, bring driver education to life and encourage new road users to see learning to drive as more than just a series of tests. The award-winning Official Highway Code iPhone app and eBook will help get this vital information into the hands of all road users. We’ve had excellent feedback from learner drivers and riders, experienced road users, and instructors and trainers alike.

It was a real pleasure to spend a day in the company of colleagues from across the industry who share a passion for improving the safety of the nation’s roads. A host of inspiring projects received awards for their achievements and innovations, all very deserving, so congratulations to all the other winners too! It was also great to raise a glass (or two) to celebrate great teamwork in 2012 and we look forward to more successes in 2013!
