TSO (The Stationery Office Ltd), part of the Williams Lea Group and the leading supplier of publishing solutions to the public sector, has today announced that it has been awarded contracts to publish all UK, (England and Wales), Northern Ireland and Scottish legislation for the next five years by The National Archives and the Queen’s Printer for Scotland. The contract includes the ongoing management of www.legislation.gov.uk, launched in August 2010 to open up the statute book.

On 18 May 2010, Prime Minister David Cameron announced a new ‘right to data’ as part of the Government’s Big Society vision, so that government-held datasets can be requested and used by the public. At the launch of the ‘Big Society’ programme, the Prime Minister said “I think crime maps, the right to data, and opening up government data, so that people can see how a social enterprise or a voluntary body could do better what government already does, is part of the agenda.”

TSO sponsored the Rewired State National Hack the Government Day 2010, on 20 March 2010 in London.
The event brought developers together to create and present working projects from public sector information. The projects created included a Parliamentary Bill Analyzer, Map Interface for Hospital and Registry Office APIs and an expenditure map. View full details of the projects created.
