Organisations today face increasing demands to make information accessible, usable, and interoperable-especially when it comes to regulatory content. AI offers a way to tackle these challenges efficiently, allowing organisations to create better solutions faster.

As part of Digital Leaders: Public Sector AI Week, I delivered a session titled Harnessing AI for Accessibility and Usability. The discussion explored how organisations can apply AI to unlock the value of their data and move from “rules on paper” to “regulation in action.”

Here are the key takeaways from the webinar:

1. AI Enables Smarter, More Accessible Solutions

AI enables organisations to accelerate digital transformation by automating repetitive tasks, improving accuracy, and scaling accessibility. By combining human expertise with AI efficiency, content that once took weeks to process can now be transformed in days - freeing teams to focus on insight and innovation.

2. Accessibility is the foundation of usability

Before information can be analysed or reused, it must be accessible. AI tools like TSO’s RemediAd automate the tagging of PDFs to meet accessibility standards, ensuring everyone - including those using assistive technologies - can access and understand critical information.

3. Structured content unlocks regulatory value

AI-driven structuring of information transforms static documents into living data. Converting content into machine-readable formats (such as JSON) allows for easier updates, reuse across multiple platforms, and integration with digital services - making regulation clearer, more consistent, and more actionable.

4. AI enables smarter interoperability

AI doesn’t just improve accessibility - it helps connect information across organisations and systems. By extracting key insights and linking related content, AI enhances interoperability, enabling regulators, policymakers, and citizens to access accurate information more efficiently.

5. AI Amplifies Human Expertise

Alan emphasised that AI works best when paired with human oversight. The goal isn’t to replace expertise but to amplify it - allowing regulators and public sector organisations to make informed, data-driven decisions faster and with greater confidence.

Watch the webinar Harnessing AI for Accessibility and Usability to explore these insights in depth and see real examples of how AI is helping organisations unlock the true value of their information.
