Click here for more information on The Official Highway Code 2007The official version of The Highway Code is prepared by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) for the Department of Transport.
The Official Highway Code is essential reading for any learner driver or motorcyclist. In addition, The Highway Code is of relevance to the public in general, as the rules of The Official Highway Code apply to all road users. The Official Highway Code contains the most up-to-date advice on road safety and summarises the laws that apply to all users of the road. The Official Highway Code is issued with the authority of Parliament. While under the Road Traffic Act 1998 failure to adhere to the provisions of The Official Highway Code will not in 'itself render a person liable to criminal proceeding of any kind' but failure to observe any provisions of The Official Highway Code may be used within legal proceedings to establish or negative liability in question. Many Highway Code rules are legal requirements, meaning that any person who chooses to disobey these Highway Code rules will be committing a criminal offence.
